TN Firefighter Dies During Tornado Cleanup

Amidst the tornado devastation in Tennessee, Briceville VFD founding member Robert Glenn Poore, 71 died of a suspected heart attack during rescue efforts.

Several members of the department including Poore were at the station watching the television weather reports and knew it was coming their way according to Assistant Chief James Wilson. The station was spared but the house next door was lost. Wilson said he was unaware of any injuries in the small town and population of 700-800 people they protect.

Wilson said the members scrambled to check the needs of 10 or so families that had homes damaged.

Storm victims from Alabama to Ohio are picking up from Sunday's round of severe storms.

Ohio is recovering from a swath of tornadoes that hit that state; five people were killed in the severe weather.

Ohio Governor Bob Taft toured the damage today.

Preliminary reports from the National Weather Service are that one of the tornadoes was an F-4.

An F-5 tornado is the strongest.

Chainsaws were a common site today in Morgan County, Tennessee while communities there pick up the pieces.

Seven people were killed when tornadoes ripped through a five-mile area; four people are still missing.

Much of Morgan County remains without power and all public schools are closed.

Volunteer firefighter 71-one year-old Robert Poore is being remembered today as person who always helped others.

Poore was helping to clear downed trees after the storm in Tennessee when he had a heart attack. He died in his front yard.

Poore played an instrumental part in getting the volunteer fire department established in his area. Friends say he will be dearly missed.

The storm was just the beginning of this major local story.
