Pennsylvania Firefighter Collapses On-Duty

A Pennsylvania Firefighter has died in the line of duty. The night of March 21, he incurred a fatal heart attack while performing Fire Company related activities alongside his car.

Barry R. Levin, 58, was a charter member of the Glen Richie Fire Company in Lawrence Township. A present-day safety officer, he had previously volunteered as chief from 1978-2004, and was an active member of the Glen Richie Response Service since its inception in 1990.

"Very untimely; very unexpected," lamented Chief Jas Catherman of Lawrence Township Fire Company #1. "It's been a tragedy to the entire county."

Friends will be received at the Bennet & Houser Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9pm Sunday March 26, 2006.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00pm Sunday at the funeral home by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.

A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Bennett and Houser Funeral Home. Fire Departments sending apparatus and representatives are asked to arrive by 10 a.m.
