Nevada Firefighter Collapses in Station

A firefighter from Las Vegas collapsed and died Aug. 8 during a physical training exercise at his station.

Richard Washington Jr., 49, a career firefighter with the Clark County Fire Dept., was treated by fellow personnel at his station, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

However, Washington was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at a local hospital.

Funeral Information

Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 11 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7670 S. Bruce Street, Las Vegas, Nev.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, Aug. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Church.

Interment immediately following at Davis Memorial Park, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, Nev.

The family requests donations be made in the memory of Richard to the Make A Wish Foundation.

Initial Summary:
Firefighter Washington suffered an apparent heart attack this morning while on duty and a performing fitness training activity. Fire department personnel at Station 16 began immediate care for Fire Fighter Washington; he was then transported to UMC Hospital where he died a short time later.
