    'Bridge of Life'

In Belle Harbor, Queens, Firefighter Joseph Agnello was memorialized on his 36th birthday as a member of Ladder 118 in Brooklyn Heights, which was photographed streaking across the Brooklyn Bridge on its final tragic run.

Firefighters such as Agnello created a "bridge of life" for many people who were saved, said Msgr. Martin Geraghty, pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church.

"That's the bridge that Joey has crossed now," the monsignor said. "He has crossed the bridge to be with God in heaven."

Hundreds of firefighters, friends and family joined Agnello's wife, Vinniecaria, and their children, Salvatore, 3, and Vincent, 1. His parents, Rita and Salvatore, brother, Anthony, and sister, Rosa, also were there.

Mayor Giuliani told Agnello's parents they should be "very, very proud" for raising "not just a hero, but a patriot."

Fellow Firefighter Anthony Carbone of Engine 205 recalled Agnello as a quiet, confident, unselfish and giving man who loved skiing, the beach and animals. He said Agnello was working toward becoming an FDNY lieutenant.
