An Outgoing Man Who Loved Football, Hunting

September 29, 2001

Carl Molinaro, 32, was last seen in the lobby of the World Trade Center's Tower Two helping survivors to escape.

The 6-foot Staten Islander called his wife, Donna, on his cell phone from the fire truck as he was speeding to the disaster scene with Ladder Co. 2 of Manhattan's Battalion No. 8. He had been a firefighter only 2 1/2 years and loved his job, his wife said.

Donna Molinaro, the daughter of a rescue fireman, Lt. Jim Winters, said her husband was a "friendly, outgoing man who loved football and hunting." She gave birth to their second child, Carl, four weeks before the disaster. The couple also has a daughter, Sabrina, 2.

Molinaro was born in Brooklyn, grew up on Staten Island and graduated from Tottenville High School in 1986. He studied at Staten Island University and worked as a carpenter before joining the fire department.
