The Arizona Diamondback's World Series champions rings that the D-Backs will be presented with tonight.

World champions. Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

    The Diamondbacks think so.

Tonight, five months after defeating the New York Yankees in one of the most exciting World Series ever, the team will receive its championship rings in a ceremony preceding its game against the San Diego Padres.

The 50,000 or so fans at Bank One Ballpark will play a big part in the celebration. They will get replicas. The real-thing rings carry an estimated value of $9,000, and were designed by a committee that included team executives, manager Bob Brenly and players Luis Gonzalez and Jay Bell and their wivesThe rings are made of gold and diamonds, but they also tell a story.

They have a patriotic theme in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, with U.S. and Arizona flags. Inscribed on the inside of the rings: "9-11-01. Never forget."
