Dear Families,

Lee Ielpi and I met with the Mayor's Office of Emergency Management yesterday morning regarding the closing ceremonies at Ground Zero. The date for the ceremonies was officially announced as Thursday, May 30, 2002 despite many requests by 9/11 families to have the ceremonies on a weekend specifically, Sunday, June 2, 2002.

The Mayor's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has disregarded several requests by our families to respect the 9/11 families who would like to attend the closing ceremonies and will be working, children who will be in school and parents waiting to pick children up from school. OEM's response for the weekend requests to respect families was that they must work around religious days including Friday, Saturday & Sunday even though the interfaith memorial service on 9/23/01 was held on a Sunday.

Please join with us to strongly request the ceremonies are accommodating for our families and moved to Sunday, June 2, 2002. Contact information for these offices is included below.

Warmest Regards,
Jack Lynch
