As the smoldering pile was reduced to a vast pit, Diana Baez and Patty DeJesus repeatedly ventured in and out of the wreckage at Ground Zero.

Not once have they removed any steel or clawed at the debris.

They bring home the dead.

Baez and DeJesus are part of a sorrowful detail of Fire Department emergency medical technicians and paramedics at the disaster site.

They rushed to the World Trade Center to save lives
