    Assistant Chief Tom Andersen of the Surfside Beach Fire Department in Myrtle Beach, SC collapsed and died while fighting a two-story condominium fire Monday afternoon.

    Chief Andersen, 48, was interior command of a structure fire at 6th Avenue and Ocean Blvd at around 5 p.m. The initial fire was reported at 4 p.m. and involved a 2 story beachfront condominium. While inside the building, Chief Andersen was stricken and collapsed. He was removed and transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

    Jan Lewis, Crew Chief and PIO for the department, said the cause of death was probably cardiac arrest but they are waiting for the coroner
