Pennsylvania Firefighter Dies from Heart Problems

An Erie, PA Fire Department Driver/EMT died at a local hospital April 27 from apparent heart related complications.

John A. Nuber, 56, of Millcreek, died at Saint Vincent Health Center after he reported to the Southcentral Firehouse and Engine 6 for work and was relieved of duty a short while later when he stated that he was feeling ill. Soon after arriving back home he complained about chest pains and EMS was called. However before they arrived Firefighter Nuber had suffered a cardiac arrest and attempts by EMS personnel to revive him were unsuccessful.

Lt. Ed Lasher said Nuber joined the department in Nov. 1968 and had been with the Third Platoon nearly all of those 34 years.

Nuber is survived by his wife Janice Lundgren Nuber, two daughters, Andrea Nuber of Pittsburgh and Tara Nuber of Erie, and a sister Ann Betsy McCune and her husband Carter of Fairview.

Services were held April 30 at the Burton Funeral Home and interment was at the Erie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the International Assoc. of Firefighters, 1750 New York Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. 20006.

The Erie Fire Department has about 170 paid personnel and operates six engines, two trucks and EMS out of six stations.
