    A Richford, New York volunteer firefighter collapsed at the scene of a motor vehicle accident Saturday, April 13, and was transported to Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca, where he was pronounced dead.

    According to Richford FD Chief Ken Gordinier, William J. Tripp Jr., 28, was on the rescue unit at the early morning accident involving a single car with minor injuries to the driver. While cleaning up the area, he complained of illness. A paramedic from Berkshire EMS treated him and he was transported.

    Tripp was a five-year veteran of the 25 member volunteer department. "He was 100 percent pure firefighter. He gave his life for what he loved," Gordinier said.

    Survivors include his parents, Roberta J. (Geoffery) Hollister of Richford and William J. (Susan) Tripp, Sr. of Freeville, NY; his daughter, Cassandra Marie Tripp of Richford; a sister, Beckey (Eric Hooton) Tripp of Enfield; a step brother, Jason Hollister of Upland, PA; his grandmothers, Dolores Tripp of Freeville and Catharine Alexander of Dryden; a nephew, Dylen Hooton; aunts, uncles; cousins.

    Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. John Easton of the Richford Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be private in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Gordinier said a procession carrying Tripp's ashes on the department fire engine, will travel from Richford to Dryden on Wednesday. Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Memorials can be made to the Richford Fire Dept., Richford, NY 13835.
