    The Chief of the Newaygo Michigan Fire Department collapsed at the scene of a fire Monday afternoon and died later in the hospital.

    Ray Ebel, 62, responded mutual aid to a house fire with the first due Fremont Fire Department. He collapsed at the scene and was rushed to Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont where he died.

    Ebel had been chief for the last four years and was a member for the past 35 years.
