    A member of the Dunham Township,Ohio, Volunteer Fire Department was injured and later died while responding to a mutual aid call to a house fire Monday, Jan 21.

    Dustin "Dusty" Schwendeman, 26, was driving his personal vehicle, a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, at about 11 p.m. from his home in Vincent to meet his department at the call. Rescuers believe he hit ice and rolled about three times before being ejected through the sun roof.

    The Barlow Township VFD responded with their squad to calls of the accident and transported Schwendeman, suffering from severe head injuries, to Marietta Memorial Hospital where he was then transported by helocopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. He died Tuesday morning about 5 a.m.

    Dunham Township VFD Firefighter Barry Barr said Schwendeman was president of the department. He had graduated from Warren High School and joined the department in 1994.

    Schwendeman was an insurance agent with Schwendeman Insurance Agency, a family business He had owned and operated Schwendeman Training Center, giving lessons to youth and amateurs and training horses for about six years He started showing horses at an early age and had won national championships according to Barr.

    Funeral liturgy with Mass is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Porterfield. Burial is in East Lawn Memorial Park. The procession will be led by Dunham Township VFD
