    The Norfolk, Va. Department of Fire and Paramedical Services regrets to announce the death of Firefighter/Shock Trauma Tech Christopher Whelan,

    Whelan suffered the heart attack in his car enroute to a fire station station on Sunday, Feb. 13, fire department spokesman Jack Goldhorn said.

    Whelan started his career with the City on April 19, 1999 and was assigned to Fire Station 13. He was a dedicated individual who loved his job in assisting the citizens of Norfolk.

    Whelan was 30 years old. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, an expectant child, his parents and one brother.

    Whelan's death took place on the day that area fire departments were holding the first fallen firefighter memorial.

    Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 17,2000 from 10 AM to 12 Noon at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home - Kempsville Chapel, 1485 Kempsville Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia.

    Final Call will take place at 2 PM Thursday February 17, 2000 at Fire Station One, 450 St. Paul's Boulevard, Norfolk, Virginia.

    Funeral procession will proceed to Colonial Grove Memorial Park, 3445 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia.

    A Memorial Fund has been set up to assist the family:
