Memorial run for 9/11 kin

Along the same stretch of highway traveled daily for months by tireless World Trade Center rescuers after the Sept. 11 attacks, Mayor Bloomberg and Gov. Pataki are asking New Yorkers to run and remember.
Bloomberg and Pataki announced plans yesterday for "Let Freedom Run," a 4-mile race Saturday, Sept. 14, that will begin at Hudson River Park's Pier 84 and proceed down the West Side Highway to Battery Park.

Registration is $20 until Sept. 7 and $30 thereafter. The fees will be donated to The Gift of New York, a nonprofit organization that helps families of Sept. 11 victims. To sign up, call (212) 354-0300 or log onto

Police officials said yesterday they will mark the Sept. 11 anniversary by adding the names of the 23 police officers killed that day to the NYPD memorial in Battery Park City. Also, the families of the slain officers will be presented with replica shields that have traveled into outer space on NASA rockets.
