The Durrell V. Pearsall Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established by the Hempstead Fire Department at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in memory of class of 1992 alumnus Durrell Valentine "Bronko" Pearsall, FDNY, who responded to the September 11th World Trade Center Attack. Bronko was and only child whose both parents had predeceased him. Bronko was a member of the Hempstead Fire Department, a member of Rescue 4 for the City of New York, Bravest Football Team, FDNY Emerald Society, and a well-loved alumnus of the C.W. Post Pioneer Football Team.

The Scholarship Fund, lasting in perpetuity, will benefit Long Island University students who are studying at C.W. Post and who are actively involved with the C.W. Post Athletic Department. They must demonstrate the qualities of leadership and dedication ("Play Like A Champion") for which "Bronko" was known, both within the Fire Department and on the playing field.
