NY to Name Streets for Firefighters

NEW YORK (AP) -- Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed a bill Friday to name 81 streets after civilians, firefighters and police officers who died in the World Trade Center attack.

The streets are located throughout the five boroughs where the firefighters and police officers lived.

"While no actions that we may take can ever adequately convey the appreciation that the entire city has for these heroes, erecting these signs throughout the five boroughs will at least express the city's desire to permanently remember their sacrifices and to rebuild our city in their memory,'' Bloomberg said at a City Hall ceremony.

The mayor then read each of the 81 names.
