CAPT. MARTIN EGAN JR, 36, of New York, N.Y., became a firefighter when he was 21 and was promoted to captain in May. Egan died after responding to the World Trade Center attack. His family said he loved to talk, gave good advice and enjoyed skiing and running. ``He was a dedicated son who was always there when you needed him,'' said his mother, Patricia Egan. ``Life won't be the same without him.''
