Pa. Firefighter Killed in Reported Collapse at Fire

A firefighter with West End Fire and Rescue in Shippensburg, Pa. was killed and another firefighter injured when a crew became trapped in an apparant collapse at a structure fire Monday afternoon, multiple sources confirmed.

The 22-year-old male firefighter, who was not identified yet at the Department's request, was transported via Life Lion Medevac to an area hospital with CPR in progress. He was pronounced dead a short time later, officials at neighboring departments confirmed.

Two other firefighters were trapped after the collapse. One escaped without injury. The second was transported by ground to Chambersburg Hospital with unknown injuries.

The West End department was alerted on the structure fire Monday afternoon. Units from the first due company, Fannett-Metal Twp. Fire Dept, arrived on the scene with heavy fire showing. Departments from at least two counties battled the blaze.

Pennsylvania State Police was initially the lead investigating agency. Further information was not expected to be released until Tuesday.
