Douglas J. Goven, 79


WORCESTER- Douglas J. Goven, 79, of 302 June St., a World War II veteran, died Monday, May 26, in UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Dorothy M. (Vangel) Goven; three daughters, Donna M. Goven, Linda M. Granger and Sandra J. Johnson, all of Worcester; a son, Kevin M. Goven of Worcester; and six grandchildren. He was born in Sebec, Maine, son of Joseph and Janice R. (Maguire) Goven, and lived here for 60 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific.

Mr. Goven was a firefighter, and was stationed at the Tatnuck Station for 20 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Worcester Elks. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

The funeral will be held at noon Thursday, May 29, in Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 29, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609.
