The Maytown-East Donegal Township Fire Department in Maytown, Pennsylvania, Lancaster County, lost one of their veteran firefighters while driving in the town parade Monday.

Fire Police Sergeant David Carbonneau Sr., 49, was driving the department fire police unit, a converted ambulance, with his daughter Helen, also a fire policeman, when he suffered cardiac arrest, according to Deputy Chief Craig Martin. Helen Carbonneau secured the vehicle and department members rushed to his side to perform CPR and use an AED. He was transported to Lancaster General Hospital Susquehanna Division where he was pronounced dead.

Carbonneau, retired, had been with the department for 23 years and about the last 10 as a fire policeman. According to Martin, it was quite a shock to the town and those attending the Memorial Day Parade. Besides his daughter, he is survived by his son David Jr. and wife Patricia.

Arrangements are being planned and Firehouse.com will post them when available.
