Lt. Vito J. Ventura, 83


WORCESTER- Vito J. Ventura, 83, of 255 Coburn Ave., a retired fire department lieutenant, died Saturday, June 14, in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Evelyn V. (Pignataro) Ventura; a son, Vito J. Ventura Jr. of Worcester; three daughters, Barbara A. Montgomery of Worcester, Rita V. Putrus of Millbury and Mary T. Prestes of Worcester; a brother, Louis Ventura of Worcester; three sisters, Nina Molinari, Mary Decillis, and Leda Lopopolo, all of Worcester; six grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A sister, Phyllis Belliveau, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Pasquale and Rita (Tarracone) Ventura. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Ventura retired in 1983 as a lieutenant on the Worcester Fire Department, where he worked for more than 30 years. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church, The Worcester Fire and Police Association, The Firemen's Relief Association, and the Disabled American Veterans.

Funeral will be held Tuesday, June 17, from Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Church, 75 Alvarado Ave. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 16, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Firemen's Relief Association, 27 Wayne St., Worcester, MA 01603.
