    Post Just a Man

The smoke is thick, the flames are high
    I'm fighting and searching,
Oh god no, a childs cry.
    *I can do this, I'm a Fireman*
Is it left or right, Lord help me see.
Lord don't take her, let it be me.
    *I can do this, I'm a Fireman*
The thought of my children bring a tear
I push the emotions away, I can't have fear.
    *I can do this, I'm a Fireman*
    I'm searching high and low
Please god show me where to go
    *I can do this, I'm a Fireman*
The cries are closer now, but i still can't see
So I call to her "Please come to me".
    *I can do this, I'm a Fireman*
I call for backup, my air is running low
They tell me to abandoned, the house is gonna go.
    *I can do this, I'm a Fireman*
I can't leave her not now, not here
And now it's back, that pesky little tear.
    *I can do this, I'm a Fireman*
    It's getting hard to breathe
    The chief is demanding
    but i just can't leave.
    *I can do this, I'm a Fireman"
As I start to fade in and out
I hear her, One last shout
    *I can do this, I'm a Fireman*
My air is out, I throw my pack aside
I've found her, the last place to hide.
    *I can do this, I'm a Fireman*
As I pick her up, I start to cry
    Her body goes limp
    If I don't hurry she's gonna die.
    *I can't do this, I'm just a Man*
My chest is tight, my lungs on fire
please god give me the strength,
    don't make me a liar.
    *I can't do this, I'm just a Man*
I promised her mother she would be just fine,
That i would get her out as fast, as if she were mine.
    *I can't do this, I'm just a Man*
I'm almost there i can see the door
I hand her to the medic, take one more step
Oh god, there goes the floor.
    *I did it, I'm a Fireman*
As I lay there dying I make one last request
"Please let it be known, I did my best."
    *I did it, I'm a Fireman*
The little girl went on to live a good life
To this day, she still visits my kids and my wife.
    *I did it, I'm a Fireman*
As I watch my family from heaven above
I soon realize I really did do it out of Love.
*And I did it because, I'm a Man*
