Iowa Firefighter Dies in the Line of Duty

An Urbandale firefighter was laid to rest with full honors Tuesday. Michael Mercurio died last Friday at his home, just hours after responding to a fire call.

Because he died so close to the end of his final shift, Mercurio's status with the fire department is listed as "killed in the line of duty." Mercurio was 52.
