William Weborg, 42, was taken to a hospital and later died, Sister Bay Fire Chief Chris Hecht said.

Investigations indicated Weborg died of a medical condition, perhaps having to do with his heart, Hecht said.

Weborg was a 25-year veteran of the department. His father, Niles Weborg, has been with the department for 45 years and has held the position of chief for 23, said Joan Weborg, Niles Weborg's wife and William Weborg's mother. Scott Weborg, William Weborg's brother, is also an Ephraim firefighter, the department said.

But Bill Weborg was much more than a firefighter, his family and friends said. The father of three school-age sons, he served as a Boy Scout troop leader and with Little League. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, his mother said.

"He was very involved at all levels in the community," Hecht said. "He's going to be missed on so many levels."

Hecht said he will always remember Bill Weborg's "willingness to help, his love for his family and for this department. Bill really had two families. He had his wife and his three sons, which his life revolved around, and then he had his Fire Department family."

Firefighters from throughout the area are standing honor guard duty at Bill Weborg's body until the funeral, Joan Weborg said.

Monday, a procession of firefighting trucks accompanied his body from a funeral home in Green Bay to Sister Bay.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sister Bay Baptist Church. Bill Weborg will be buried with full departmental honors.

Fire departments wanting to attend are asked to meet at the Sister Bay fire station, 220 Park Lane, at 10 a.m. Thursday. More information for firefighters planning to attend is available at www.ephraimfd.com.
