Widow sues OVER FIREFIGHTER'S DEATH
The widow of a Fire Department lieutenant killed in a fire in January filed a wrongful-death lawsuit in State Supreme Court yesterday, seeking unspecified damages from the city and from the owners of the apartment building where the fire broke out. The widow, Jeanette Meyran, charged that illegal partitions in the building blocked access to a fire escape, and that the Fire Department was liable because at the time of the fire it was no longer supplying firefighters with safety ropes that might have saved the life of her husband, Lt. Curtis W. Meyran. He and another firefighter died when they jumped from fourth-floor windows of the building. The department would not comment on pending litigation. Kareem Fahim (NYT)
