An Atlanta firefighter is in Grady Memorial Hospital with third degree burns and other serious injuries.
Thirty-three year old Steven Solomon is being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital for third degree burns.
Neighbors say a homeless man may have been trying to cook in an abandoned home in northwest Atlanta.
The fire began just after 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Elm Street.
There were solemn looks on the faces of firefighters after their injured comrade was taken from the burning building. As they huddled for prayer at the scene in Vine City, some even shed tears.
Dozens of firefighters responded, and a number of them went inside to extinguish the blaze. But conditions began to worsen. Crews were ordered to get out, but they soon realized one firefighter was left inside, so they went back inside and pulled Solomon to safety.
He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital. The actual cause of the fire is under investigation.
