    Story by channelcincinnati.com

The Whitewater Township Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its officers.

The department said Lt. Paul Montavon was responding to a call when he died. The department would not say how Montavon died, but that it was a "non-traumatic" death.

Montavon was a 33-year veteran of the fire department and also worked as the department's fire marshal.

Veteran firefighter and paramedic Lt. Paul Montavon Sr. died after responding to an automobile accident Sunday.

Lt. Paul Montavon Sr. collapsed after arriving at the scene on Single Tree.

Montavon, 59, had been with the department for nine years. His career as a firefighter-paramedic spanned three decades, officials said.

His cause of death has not been determined.

Before coming to Whitewater, Montavon worked for the Harrison Fire Department.

"He was an absolutely amazing man," said Capt. Jennie Miller of Whitewater.

Because of financial constraints, the fire department is staffed only part-time. Miller said Montavon often arrived at emergency scenes during his off hours.

"He was very dedicated," Miller said.
