LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM - FBU general secretary Matt Wrack said:

"We are devastated by the loss of our four colleagues who died in the line of duty in Warwickshire. Our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues who have been stunned by these deaths.

"This is the worse loss the fire service has faced in decades. Our service is traumatised by what has happened.

"Deaths in the line of duty touch everyone who works in the fire service. Deaths within the fire service family are felt very deeply by everyone in the service, across the world, not only in the UK.

"Local and national FBU officials are already looking at all health and safety issues relating to this incident. They will be co-operating fully with the Health and Safety Executive and local brigade managers."

    ATHERSTONE ON STOUR, England --

Two hundred firefighters held a ceremony Tuesday night to honor four of their colleagues who died in a suspicious fire at a warehouse in central England.

The tribute outside the large vegetable packing warehouse began shortly after an extensive and hazardous search of the badly damaged building found the bodies of three of the missing firefighters.

"We can confirm that we have retrieved three people from the premises in the last few hours," regional police said in a statement.

The blaze at the warehouse began Friday evening in an industrial park in Atherstone on Stour, about 120 miles (190 kilometers) northwest of London.

More than 80 firefighters battled for several hours to put out the fire. The body of one firefighter was found right away, but the three others were missing until being found Tuesday.

The honor guard formed by the firefighters for the four victims of the disaster on Tuesday night was televised live on British news stations.
