An FDNY firefighter was seriously injured after falling through a stairwell at a burning Bronx apartment building this morning, according to WABC-TV.

The 40-year-old firefighter was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital to be treated after falling from the third to second floor through the stairs and was listed in serious condition.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening, the report said.

Crews found one man critically burned when they arrived at the six-story building on Sedgwick Avenue just after 4 a.m. He was burned to his hands and face and also suffered smoke inhalation.

Other residents were being treated at the scene as firefighters were forced to make numerous rescues as residents rushed for fire escapes.
