    2012-04-24 Worcester Fire Lt.Stephen J. Duffy Retired

    Obituary

    Worcester - Stephen J. Duffy, 63, a retired Worcester Fire Dept. Lieutenant, was stricken ill and died Tuesday, April 24, 2012 while vacationing in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
    He leaves his loving wife and best friend of 41 years, Linda (Tetreault) Duffy; his two sons, Stephen Duffy, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Westminster, and Michael Duffy of Millbury, a Worcester firefighter; a daughter, Erin (Duffy) Ridick and his son-in-law Timothy Ridick of Worcester, who is also a Worcester firefighter; five grandchildren, Katelyn, Haley, Jane, Shea and Morgan; two brothers, Thomas Duffy of Worcester and James Duffy of Kingston, R.I. and a sister, Catherine Duffy of Worcester. He was predeceased by his parents Worcester Deputy Fire Chief William Duffy and Rita (Barrett) Duffy and his brother William Duffy.
    Stephen was born in Worcester and was a lifelong resident of Grafton Hill. He graduated in 1966 from St. Stephen's High School.
    Stephen was appointed a firefighter in 1972. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1980 and retired in September of 2010. He spent most of his career with Engine 16 at the Grove Street Headquarters Station. He was also a talented plasterer and had a business Duffy and Sons Plastering Co.
    Stephen was happiest at home is his garden and with his family. He was a dedicated son, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a selfless and faithful friend, and he loved being a Worcester firefighter.
    Calling hours are Sunday, April 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St.., Worcester. The funeral will be Monday, April 30 from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester.
    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jon Davies Family Fund, 34 Glennie St., Worcester, MA 01605.
