2015-08-27 Worcester Firefighter Michael W. Sienkiewicz Retired

    Michael W. Sienkiewicz, 77

WORCESTER - Michael W. Sienkiewicz, 77 of Worcester, a retired Worcester Fire Fighter, met his creator on Thursday, August 27th 2015 with his family gathered by his side after a three year struggle with cancer.

Michael was born in Worcester, the only child of Michael and Ana (Yudicky) Sienkiewicz. He attended St John's High school in Shrewsbury and Worcester State College. Michael then joined the U.S. Marines Corps, to serve his country during the early years of Vietnam. Michael then had the opportunity to serve the City of Worcester as a fire fighter, a job he loved and was so proud of. Assigned to the Greendale Fire Station Engine 11 and Ladder 6; Michael served those companies until retiring due to injuries suffered at a fire.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 51 years; Jeannette; his children whom he was so proud of, Michael Sienkiewicz and his fiancée Francesca Dirico, Juliana and her husband Frank SantaMaria. Michael had two grandchildren he dearly loved and spent as much time as he could with; Audreana and Pat; his cousin, Theresa Roskin; many extended family members, and friends.

He was an avid fisherman; once braking the Massachusetts State Record by catching the largest Lake Trout at Wachusett Reservoir, 40 ½ inches long, 22 ¼ inches round and over 24 pounds; a record that still stands today. In July 2004, an article appeared in the popular fishing magazine, "On the Water" documenting this feat. Michael also had a hobby of collecting antique furniture, often bringing them back to life by restoration. He also bought and sold antique jewelry as well, becoming proficient at giving estimates as to their value.

Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Monday, August 31st from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Tuesday, September 1st from the funeral home with a procession to St George Church, 40 Brattle St, where his Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Cemetery services will follow at St John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St Jude Children's Research Hospital, Danny Thomas Way, Memphis Tennessee.
