    James "Russ" R. Walker, Sr., 91

    WORCESTER - James "Russ" R. Walker, Sr., 91, of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at UMass Memorial Medical Center after an illness. Born and raised in Worcester, Russ was the son of Joseph W. and Irene "Rena" (Lamont) Walker and lived here most of his life.

    Russ graduated from North High School in 1942 and was inducted into the United States Navy in 1943. He proudly served his country during World War II and was assigned to the USS. Charles F. Huges, a U.S. Navy Destroyer. He was deployed to both the Asiatic Pacific and European Theaters of operation until being honorably discharged in 1945. After returning home from the war, Russ joined the Worcester Fire Department where he served until his retirement.

    He enjoyed vacationing with his wife Thelma at their summer home in South Dennis and particularly looked forward to spending winters in Jensen Beach, Florida in his retirement years.

    His wife of 47 years, Thelma T. (Yvon) Walker died in 1992. He leaves his son, James R. Walker, Jr., and his wife Sandra of Holden; a brother, Richard Walker of Worcester; three grandchildren, Jennifer Guertin, Kristin Treadway and Matthew Walker; five great grandchildren, Claire, William, Julia, Ellyn and Vivian; nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by two brothers, John and Ralph Walker.

    Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service honoring Russ' life at 12 p.m., Friday, October 9, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A service of committal with military honors will follow in the mausoleum at Notre Dame in Worcester.
