Daniel Harlin, 41, was a police officer in the Bronx before he became a firefighter in Manhattan.

Altogether he had more than 15 years in police and fire department service. Like most firefighters, he loved his job, said his wife, Debbie.

Attached to Manhattan's Battalion No. 8, Harlin was last seen in the World Trade Center Tower Two, where he was helping with the evacuation.

Born in Flushing, Harlin grew up in College Point and was graduated from Flushing High School in 1977.

He made his home in Kent in Putnam County with his wife and their three children, aged 9, 7 and 2
