2010-06-07 Worcester Firefighter Samuel J. George Retired
Samuel J. George, 83, of Worcester, died Monday, June 7, 2010 in UMass Memorial Medical Center.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Lucille P. (McCarty) George; two sons: William D. George and his wife, Deborah, of Sutton and Robert J. George and his wife, Mary, of Spencer; a stepdaughter: Beverly F. Beauregard and her husband, Roland, of Spencer; five grandchildren: Christine, Rebecca, Robert Jr., Nicholas and Timothy; and a niece and two nephews. A sister, Elizabeth A. Mercier, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Harry W. and Elizabeth C. (Dixon) George. Samuel was a graduate of the former High School of Commerce. He was a fire fighter for over 30 years with the Worcester Fire Department. Samuel later worked for the Cleveland Indians and Disneyworld. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. Samuel was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and the American Legion Post #341. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. The funeral is Friday, June 11th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, June 10th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
