Lt. James H. Stolberg Jr., 70, of Millbury, died peacefully on Monday, April 13th in his home surrounded by his family after a long illness.

Mr. Stolberg is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beatrice I. (Blais) Stolberg; two sons: James H. Stolberg III of Boulder County, CO and Joseph M. Stolberg and his wife Charlene of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Donna L. Conlon-Stolberg and her wife Melissa of Millbury; a brother, Robert E. Stolberg of Worcester; three sisters: Patricia F. Stolberg of Worcester, Gail L. Steele of Shrewsbury and Janice R. Gilman of Alta Monte Springs, FL; 6 grandchildren: Kyle, Tyler, Katelyn, Adrianna, John and Andrew; and several nephews and nieces.

James was born in Worcester, son of the late James H. Stolberg Sr. and Jeannette E. (Desrosiers) Stolberg. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School in 1956 and served in the United States Marine Corps. Reserves.

He retired from the Worcester Fire Department as a Lieutenant in 2001. During his tenure on the Worcester Fire Department he served on Ladder Co. 1, Ladder Co. 2, and retired from Ladder Co. 5 at the Providence Street Fire Station. James was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on January 25, 1981 and also served the town of Millbury Fire Department as a Captain for Engine Co. 2.

Mr. Stolberg was a member of Saint Brigid's Church in Millbury, the Worcester Lodge of Elks #243 where he was a former Trustee and the co-chair of the Thursday morning golf league. He was also a member of the American Legion Dudley-Gendron Post #414 in Sutton, the Marine Corps. League in Sutton, the Retired Men's Club of Greendale, and was a lifetime member of the Singletary Rod & Gun Club where he served as treasurer.

James enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and woodworking, but most of all loved spending time with his family and friends and his extended family the King and Kosiba families.

A funeral will be held on Thursday, April 16th from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond Street with a Mass at 10 AM in Saint Brigid's Church, 59 Main Street, Millbury. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, Millbury. Calling hours are on Wednesday, April 15th from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
